Klaus Parhofer is a Professor of Metabolism and Endocrinology at the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, Germany, a position he has held since 2003. Professor Parhofer obtained his Medical Degree at the University of Munich, Germany, (1987) and pursued his postgraduate specialization in Internal Medicine (1995), Endocrinology and Metabolism (1998) and in Intensive Care Medicine (2001). Professor Parhofer also held a postdoctoral position in the Lipid Research Center at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, (1989-1992) and at the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA (1997). His research focuses on lipoprotein metabolism, particularly diabetic dyslipoproteinemia. Beside basic research, he is also involved in many clinical studies and has published over 300 articles in scientific journals (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Parhofer+K&sort=date). As a clinician he sees patients with metabolic diseases, especially dyslipidemia and diabetes but also adult patients with inborn errors of metabolism on a regular basis and is a member of many professional societies and associations.
