Dr. Philippe Jr Timmermans graduated as cardiologist in 2013 at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium), after which he obtained board certification in acute and intensive medicine at the same institution. From 2014, he stan advanced heart failure and transplantation fellowship in Leuven, which was combined with participation in the first ESC postgraduate course on heart failure at the University of Zürich from 2013 to 2014 (Swiss).

From September 2015 onwards, Dr. Philippe Jr. Timmermans started working in the Jessa hospital in Hasselt (Belgium), where he is actively involved in the acute, chronic and advanced heart failure programs.

In 2017, Dr. Timmermans successfully applied for the master in cardiovascular health economics program at the London School of Economics (UK), supported by a grant from the ESC. He graduated in 2019 with his dissertation entitled “Left Ventricular Assist Devices as destination therapy in Belgium: unmet needs and political bias”. This paper was presented during the 2020 ESC meeting and facilitated the adoption of LVAD in DT as of 2021.
